Event Details

Sarah Ladipo Manyika joins an exciting generation of Nigerian writers, many of whom have gained international acclaim and are charting new literary territory. Her book, In Dependence, was recently featured by the United Kingdom's largest bookstore chain as its main book for Black History Month. In Dependence is the bittersweet and tragic love story of a young Nigerian man and the daughter of an ex-colonial officer who meet during the 1960s at Oxford University just at the dawn of the civil rights and African independence movements. Despite the social taboos and the vast differences between their worlds, the two characters embark on a perilous journey fraught with post-war idealism, post-colonial disappointment, and mistimed love.

Join the Young Professionals International Forum for another installment of their Voices of the World Author Series, a program designed to bring international writers of fiction, poetry, and memoir to the World Affairs Council.
