Have enormous under-the-table payments become accepted as a necessary cost of international business? Former Prime Minister Tony Blair quashed the investigation of an alleged one billion pound bribe paid by British Aerospace to secure a lucrative contract with Saudi Arabia. Nigerian officials received $182 million to guarantee a six billion dollar contract for the American firm KBR. Millions of dollars passed from Swedish arms manufacturers to Czech politicians to facilitate the leasing of 14 “Gripen” fighters by the Czech Air Force.

A distinguished professor at the UC Berkeley School of Journalism, Lowell Bergman was immortalized by Al Pacino in The Insider for his investigation of the tobacco industry for 60 Minutes. He shared a Pulitzer Prize with The New York Times for his exposé of violations of safety and environmental laws by the iron sewer and pipe industry. He recently completed a Frontline special on human smuggling at the US-Mexican border.
