About The World Affairs CouncilThe World Affairs Council was founded by community leaders in 1947 out of the interest generated by the founding of the United Nations in San Francisco in 1945. With over 11,000 members, we are the largest international affairs organization on the West Coast. As a non-profit, we are governed by our Board of Trustees and Advisory Committee composed of leaders from the Bay Area's business, philanthropic, academic, and media communities. Our MissionThe mission of the World Affairs Council of Northern California is to engage the public in the exploration of international issues and opportunities that transcend borders. Recognizing that new leaders emerge everyday, the World Affairs Council's membership is, and will always remain, open. International Affairs InvolvementThe Council hosts events and conferences with the leaders who impact global affairs, including heads of state, government officials, international philanthropists, journalists, business leaders, and academics. All of our guests bring perspectives that go beyond the headlines, providing our audience with the unique opportunity to hear from and engage with foreign policy and international relations experts. The Council reaches out to students, teachers, and young professionals to enhance their opportunities for learning about international affairs. We provide our corporate members with special programming and access to leaders of the international business community. We also host art exhibits that provide a different angle on world affairs. Through the audio and video efforts, we are increasingly making our programming available anytime, anywhere. Membership and SupportCouncil membership entitles you to a variety of benefits and supports our broad range of educational activities. Our major donors comprise the Donors Circle, whose members enjoy special opportunities with Council guests. World Affairs Chapters and AffiliationsIn addition to our headquarters in San Francisco's Union Square, we serve members through Chapters in the East Bay, Marin, Sacramento and on the Peninsula. We are the largest affiliate of the World Affairs Councils of America.
